The World's Fair May 19th, 2017 - In This Week

The bells ring out for historic May fair in Hereford

The Hereford May fair, otherwise known as the feast of Saint Ethelbert, one of the patron saints of the Cathedral, was held this year from May 2 to May 4, opening as always during the midweek from Tuesday to Thursday.

Adrian Jones’s account is on page 4.

Chinese State Circus licensed to thrill

For the 2017 season Tony Hopkins is touring the Chinese State Circus under licence from the Gandey Organisation. The show is presented in Tony’s cream and light blue high dome Big Top, with the large foyer tent in front housing the refreshments trailer and candyfloss and popcorn stalls. The front porch has a new yellow canopy emblazoned with ‘Chinese State Circus’ to welcome the audience to the show.

Andy Payne’s review is on page 24.

Abbey Hill cracker starts the season

The May Day Bank Holiday has come at last, bringing with it the start of the season, and checking my diary I find that I am somewhere almost every weekend from now until mid October. The wife, it must be said, is not quite so enthusiastic.

Charlie Elston’s report is on page 31.
