Hectic year dominated by CMA described at Northern Section Luncheon

In his address to guests at the Northern Section Annual Luncheon on November 8, Section Chairman, George Bliss, pointed out that this was the 50th such event. The luncheon took place, as usual, at the Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham, a popular venue for showmen locally.

Circus

Ruxley Manor Garden Centre near Dartford in Kent is one of the first garden centres to host John Lawson’s Circus. The show has made regular February half term and October visits for a number of years now, growing in popularity to such an extent that many of the performances are sold out in advance. The shows, which are approximately an hour long, were performed four times a day.

Amongst the many attractions at the Great Dorset Steam Fair one of the most popular that has endured over the years is the Heavy Haulage Arena. Those of us with a long enough memory can recall the days at the Stourpaine Bushes site, when the heavy haulage boys would couple up and typically take loads of logs through the crowds, there being no dedicated arena back in the 1970s.

Peter Hammond’s report is on page 31.
