Funland @ the Tropicana

Funfair

For a third season the former Art Deco lido on the sea front at Weston-super-Mare has been transformed into a family fun park by Event Attractions Ltd, run by James Rogers, who along with wife Candice, operates Pirate Adventureland mini golf and the Sky View 40 metre observation wheel on the Beach Lawns. James has a good working relationship with the local authority, built up over a number of years, and when not open at Funland, his American Chance built Carousel revolves on the Green in front of the entrance to the Grand Pier.

Guy Belshaw’s account is on page 6.

Congestion mars HCVS Brighton run

pres

Sadly the Historic Commercial Vehicle Society’s sixtieth anniversary year road run (the 57th in the series) might go down as one the organisers would prefer to forget. Everything was set fair; we were heading for the kind of blue sky bank holiday needed to eradicate the memory of that interminable dark and dank winter. Entries were high class, there was special section of pre 1919 vehicles to mark the ending of World War I a century ago, and Brighton was en fete.

Roger Mills’ report is on page 31.
