Silcock Leisure Group flying the flag for Coronation

Silcock Leisure Group is flying the flag to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III this Bank Holiday Weekend!

Visitors can crown their weekend (6th-8th May) by enjoying a special Coronation offer on ice creams at Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant. On purchase of a 99 ice-cream, you can get the red, white and blue sherbert toppings for free over the three days.

There are also lots of royal themed prizes to be won inside Silcock’s Funland with royal teddies, toy King Charles Spaniels, flags, mugs and more.

Families will also be able to enjoy rides every day this weekend on the historic Silcock’s Carousel.

Situated on the Southport Pier Forecourt next to the other two businesses, it is the oldest attraction in Southport. Built in 1901, it has entertained generations of people during the reigns of Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI, Elizabeth II and from this weekend onwards, Charles III.

The Carousel was recently named one of 10 finalists in the Hidden Gem category in the 2023 Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards.

To mark the forthcoming celebrations, Silcock’s staff delighted passers-by as they lined up outside Funland wearing royal masks, while Union Jack flags are flying proudly from the building.

Silcock’s Operations Manager Serena Silcock-Prince said: “We are all themed up and are looking forward to a great weekend as everyone celebrates the Coronation!

“We have lots of royal themed prizes available for people to win, and a special Coronation themed offer on our 99 ice creams.

“The Carousel will be open, everything will be open, it is going to be a really fun weekend in Southport.

“The Carousel has been entertaining families through quite a few Coronations! There are not many attractions that can say that.

‘Once in a lifetime’

“We are really looking forward to the Coronation.

“It is going to be a busy bank holiday weekend, and lovely for children to have that extra day off school.

“The reign of Queen Elizabeth II was so long and extraordinary that most people in the country have never seen a Coronation before! When I think of the images of the last one, they were nearly all in black and white.

“It is going to be special, something worth celebrating. This is a real once in a lifetime event.

The Coronation has created a really good feelgood factor, and it’s been great to see so many businesses and homes in Southport getting into the royal spirit, getting their bunting up and flying the flag to celebrate.”
