Your chance to pay tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II in World’s Fair

The October edition of World’s Fair magazine will carry tributes from Showmen to Queen Elizabeth II as a permanent record of the community’s affection and respect for her. If you would like the chance for your personal tribute or recollection to be included, please post your tribute in the comments section below or WhatsApp your message (with photo if you wish) to 07468 580788. Thank you.

“It is with great sadness that we have lost our most iconic Queen. Having met her on two occasions, as President of the Showmen’s Guild … I can confirm she made any meeting with her a joy of a conversation.

“Her knowledge of travelling Showmen’s culture and lifestyle was considerable and she was mindful that we must treasure our heritage. There is no commendation better than that!

“She has been a Queen for the people of the world and her contribution has made it a better place and all of us better people. May she rest in peace.”

– Cllr Anthony Harris

John Culine MBE says of the Queen: “She knew the Guild and what we do. Most people don’t know who we are. She did.”

Meeting the Queen when she opened Elsecar Heritage Centre in Yorkshire, he started to inform her who The Showmen’s Guild were. John says: “She immediately held her hand up and stopped me, saying with a lovely smile: ‘I know who the Showmen’s Guild are and what they do’.

“I’ll never forget that lovely smile.

“God Bless Her Majesty The Queen, RIP. We will all miss you but your legacy will go on with our members.”

– John C Culine MBE

Please leave any tribute you would like to make (it doesn’t have to involve meeting her) in the comments section below.

  2. As a Professional Variety performer I was very Honoured and proud to be asked to perform seven times for the Her Majesty.. Our Queen, (now) King Charles and Royal family. The memories I will treasure forever. One one occasion I was asked to perform for (then)Prince Charles Birthday at Buckingham Palace as Charlie Chaplins little Tramp. I had left my cane behind in the car but was given another cane to continue my act, which I found out was the Queen’s Mother’s. Then later immersing myself into full character I almost (within inches) sat on the Royal Thrones without realising. On speaking to Her Majesty, Prince Philip and Prince Charles after, she laughingly said “She thought I was very amusing and how she enjoyed my Performance.” I received three letters from the Palace and Royal family including Prince Charles personal letter again thanking me and how they all enjoyed my performance and signed it from Charlie.
My family and myself are greatly saddened by the passing of Our Queen and thank her for all her years of devotion, support and bringing Peace God bless you and God bless and Save Our New King. From Dee’Dee Lee, family : Malcolm, Penney and Valentino
