A minute’s silence will be held at the opening of EAG Expo on 10 January in honour of industry legend Norman Leftly, who sadly passed away in November.

Norman Leftly to be honoured at EAG

Industry legend and official EAG photographer Norman Leftly, who sadly passed away in November, aged 75 years, will be remembered with a minute’s silence at the opening of January’s show.

The thousands of visitors expected to attend EAG 2023 will be invited to reflect on ‘Norm’ who spent his professional life working in the industry as well as documenting it both as a former Coinslot journalist and more recently as THE industry photographer.

The EAG team is also organising a Book of Condolence for visitors to sign at the show, which will be presented to Norman’s wife Ruth and family.

EAG Chairman, Martin Burlin, who knew Norman prior to his days at Coinslot believes the show is a fitting event at which to demonstrate the industry’s appreciation and affection for a life well spent.

He said: “Norman was a massive advocate and supporter of the London show both in its current EAG format and previously as ATEI. Like so many of us he always spent the first Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of January mixing with friends and colleagues, on stands exploring the latest technology, reporting on the industry and more recently photographing the people, and the products which make up the business.

“I was only talking to Norman a few weeks prior to his passing about whether he would be able to take the photos at EAG 2023. He reluctantly turned down the invitation and instead we agreed that he would attend the show as our guest.

“Norman was one of our own who knew everyone and everyone knew him. I hope that as many people from the industry as possible will join us at 10am on the opening day of EAG to mark a wonderful life spent working with organisations including JBD, Phonographic Hire, Associated Leisure, Taito, V.I. Leisure, Jaleco, Coinslot, ACOS and of course EAG. It was a genuine privilege to work with Norman, but more importantly a privilege to know him.”
